How Does Online Physiotherapy Work?

We get this question a lot! Why? Because typically we think of physiotherapists working on us with their hands so it can be hard to visualise how it works when the therapist and client are not in the same room, let alone the same suburb, city or perhaps state! In this blog, we explain how online physiotherapy works, what a session could look like for you or your child and why online therapy is becoming the preferred choice for many.

Firstly, we need to say that physiotherapy is different for each client that we support. The reason for this is that we tailor our programs to the individual needs and goals of our clients.

What’s great about online physiotherapy is that you can do it from the comfort of your home, from school or work, at a time that suits you.

Just like any other therapist, we can offer direct one-on-one sessions with customers and upskill parents and carers on how to provide support at home too.

What is Online Physiotherapy?

Online physiotherapy allows clients to receive physiotherapy services through a video call. So instead of physically attending a clinic or healthcare facility, clients can access physiotherapy sessions from the comfort of their own homes or any location with internet access.

How Does it Work?

To get started, clients may be required to provide their medical history, complete questionnaires, and submit any relevant documents, such as imaging reports, previous treatment records or information from other practitioners. This information allows the physiotherapist to gather a comprehensive understanding of you or your loved ones’ condition and tailor the treatment plan accordingly.

Online physiotherapy sessions are conducted using Zoom video conferencing and this allows our clients and physiotherapists to meet in real-time from the comfort of your living room or even in the classroom at school. You will schedule an appointment with one of our team and receive a video link to join the online session at the designated time.

During the session, our physio will use video and audio to assess you or your loved one, provide instructions for exercises, and offer guidance on managing your condition or injury. When our physiotherapists work with children, parents, carers and even siblings get involved to help.

Benefits of Online Physiotherapy

Online physiotherapy sessions offer several benefits for both clients and physiotherapists:

  • Convenience: Online physiotherapy eliminates the need for clients to travel to a clinic or healthcare facility, saving you time and money on transport and parking. Clients can login for physiotherapy sessions from the comfort of their own homes or any location with internet access, making it especially convenient for individuals with limited mobility, busy schedules, or living in remote areas.
  • Accessibility: Online physiotherapy expands access to physiotherapy services for people who may have difficulty accessing traditional in-person sessions due to geographical barriers, transportation issues, or health conditions that limit your mobility.
  • Flexibility: Online physiotherapy sessions offer greater flexibility in scheduling, allowing you to book appointments at a time that suits your availability. This flexibility can be especially beneficial for individuals with demanding work schedules or other commitments.
  • Personalised Care: Just like in-person physiotherapy sessions, online sessions provide one-on-one attention from a qualified physiotherapist. Clients receive personalised care and treatment plans tailored to their specific needs and goals.
  • Continuity of Care: Online physiotherapy allows clients to continue their treatment plan without interruption, even if they are unable to attend in-person sessions due to unforeseen circumstances.

Online physiotherapy sessions are no doubt changing the way we all think about physiotherapy services, making physio more convenient and accessible.
