The School Holidays are here, so we asked our Occupational Therapists to share their ideas for family fun activities that will keep your children entertained.

1. Activate the senses

Sensory activities such as playing with slime, kinetic sand, or water beads can help children develop their senses and improve their focus and attention.

2. Cook up a storm!

Cooking and baking can help children develop fine motor skills and sequencing skills, and can be great for encouraging them to try new foods.

3. Get active outside

Spending time outdoors and getting involved in activities such as running, jumping, climbing, and throwing or kicking a ball can help children develop gross motor skills, improve balance, and coordination, and strengthen their muscles.

4. Arts and crafts

Arty activities like painting, drawing, and doing collages can help children develop fine motor skills, creativity, and imagination.

5. Games and puzzles

Board games and puzzles can help children develop social skills, and problem-solving skills, and improve their concentration and attention.

6. Music time

Listening to music, singing, and dancing can help with developing coordination and rhythm, and they can be great for improving mood and regulating emotions.

7. Find your zen

Yoga and meditation can help children develop their concentration, balance, and improve their emotional regulation. There are lots of yoga and meditation for kids available on YouTube.

It’s important to note that these activities should be age appropriate and tailored to each child’s individual needs and interests.
